Privacy Policy

Last updated 27 September 2026.

This policy explains how Oallen Law collects, uses, stores and discloses personal information. We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles, and in accordance with our professional obligations of confidentiality as lawyers.

What we collect

We collect personal information that is reasonably necessary for our functions and activities as a law practice, including:

  • Contact details
    Your name, phone number, email address and suburb;
  • Enquiry details
    The type of matter, your description of it, its urgency and your preferred contact time;
  • Matter information
    If you engage us, information about your relationship, family, finances, assets, children and other circumstances relevant to your legal matter, which may include sensitive information;
  • Information about other people
    Such as a former partner, children or other parties, where relevant to your matter; and
  • Website information
    Technical and usage information collected through cookies and similar technologies, described below.

How we collect it

We collect information directly from you when you complete our enquiry form, call or email us, meet with us, or provide documents. We may also collect information from third parties (such as the other party's lawyers, courts, experts, financial institutions and public registers) where this is necessary for your matter.

When you submit an enquiry, our form also records how you arrived at our website (for example, the advertising campaign or search that led you here and the page on which you first landed) so that we can understand which of our marketing is effective.

Why we collect it

We use personal information to:

  • respond to your enquiry and check for conflicts of interest;
  • provide legal services, and manage and bill our engagement;
  • comply with our legal and professional obligations;
  • improve our website and services; and
  • measure the effectiveness of our advertising.

We do not sell personal information.

Confidentiality and privilege

Information you give us for the purpose of seeking legal advice is confidential and may be protected by legal professional privilege. Our professional duties of confidentiality apply in addition to this policy. We do not disclose information about your matter to the other party except as you instruct or the law requires.

Cookies, analytics and advertising

Our website uses:

  • essential technologies needed to operate the site and the enquiry form;
  • analytics, including Google Analytics (through Google Tag Manager) and Vercel Web Analytics, to understand how the site is used; and
  • advertising measurement (including Google Ads conversion tracking) to understand whether our advertisements lead to enquiries.

Google Ads may receive a securely hashed (encrypted one-way) version of the email address and phone number you submit, to attribute an enquiry to an advertisement ("enhanced conversions"). You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics with Google's browser add-on and manage ad personalisation at adssettings.google.com. Blocking cookies does not affect your ability to use the site or contact us.

Who we disclose it to

We may disclose personal information to:

  • service providers who help us operate our practice and website: such as our website host, email delivery provider, practice management and document storage providers, and IT support;
  • barristers, experts, mediators and other professionals engaged for your matter, with your consent;
  • courts, tribunals and government agencies, where required for your matter or by law; and
  • our professional insurers and advisers, where necessary.

Overseas disclosure

Some of our service providers store or process data outside Australia, including in the United States. Where we use such providers, we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle personal information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss and unauthorised access, modification or disclosure. These include access controls, encryption in transit, and professional confidentiality obligations for our staff. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so please consider what you include in an online enquiry.

Access and correction

You can ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you by contacting us. We will respond within a reasonable time. In some circumstances (for example, where access would affect the privacy of others or where information is privileged) we may be entitled to refuse access, and we will explain why.

Complaints

If you have a concern about how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so that we can try to resolve it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
