Eastern Suburbs

Family Lawyers for the Eastern Suburbs

We help families from Bondi, Randwick, Coogee, Maroubra, Rose Bay, Double Bay, Woollahra and Paddington with separation, property, children's arrangements and wills. Our office is a short train or bus ride away in the city, or we can meet by video.

Close to home, but not too close

Advice away from your own street

The Eastern Suburbs are busy and close-knit. From Bondi to Paddington, people bump into each other at the beach, at school, at the shops and at sport. When you are going through a separation, it can help to talk to someone outside that circle.

Our office in the city is close enough to reach in a few minutes by train or bus, and far enough away from your neighbourhood. You will meet us at our office, and we will only contact you in the way you tell us is best. If it is easier, we can meet by video.

What we help with

What Eastern Suburbs families ask us about

The home, rented or owned
Whether you rent an apartment in Randwick or own a house in Maroubra, you need to know who stays, who goes, and how the savings, super and debts are shared. See property settlement.

Children and school
Most parents want their children to stay at the same school, near their friends and activities. We help you build arrangements that make that possible. See children and parenting.

Help from parents
Many younger families have been helped into the housing market by their parents. Whether that money was a gift or a loan can make a real difference. We help you work it out.

Prenups for couples moving in or marrying
Couples who own property, or expect an inheritance, often ask us about prenups and financial agreements.

Families with ties overseas
Many Eastern Suburbs families have relatives, property or plans overseas. That raises questions about travel with children, moving abroad and assets in another country.

Frequently asked

Questions from families in the Eastern Suburbs

How do I get to your office from the Eastern Suburbs?

The Eastern Suburbs train line runs from Bondi Junction, Edgecliff and Kings Cross to Martin Place, a short walk from 185 Elizabeth Street. Buses from Randwick, Coogee and Maroubra run into the city, and ferries from Double Bay and Rose Bay go to Circular Quay.

We rent. Is there still property to divide?

Usually, yes. Property includes savings, superannuation, cars, shares and debts, not just a house. Superannuation is often one of the largest assets, even for couples who rent.

My parents helped us buy our home. Will that be taken into account?

Yes. Money from parents is usually treated either as a gift to one or both of you, or as a loan that must be repaid. Which it is depends on the evidence. Either way, it is relevant to how the property is divided.

Can we sort things out without going to court?

Most people do. Many families reach agreement through negotiation or mediation, and the agreement is then made legally binding without anyone going to court.

What if I can't get away from work during the day?

Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.30pm. If coming into the city during the day is difficult, we can meet by video or phone, and you can send an enquiry online at any time.
